Teenage Pregnancies: The case of Gloria
Teenage pregnancies have made a lot of young girls in the Upper East Region of Ghana to drop out of school.
For instance, there are communities in the region that 6 out of 10 girls do not make it to high schools because of teenage pregnancies. In the case of Gloria, who is the only child of her aged mother dropped out of school at Primary six in 2015. Even though the mother as we can see in the picture is poor to the extent that she can not provide one meal a day. Not only that there is no decent shelter as you can see above. During our interaction with the mother, she was sad that her little investment made on her daughter with the hope that in future she will take her out of poverty has been dashed. Gloria is just an example,. there are 1000s of girls in the same situation in Upper East Region. We as well meaning citizens of this world must wake up to the call to empower these young ladies through education as the saying goes " when you educate a woman everything changes"
