Plastic waste a curse to Africa

In the 21st century most Governments and cities in Africa are grappling with huge amount of waste generated. its is an undeniable fact that almost all Africa countries are struggling to deal with both plastic  and solid waste generated in the cities of which my beloved country Ghana is not exception. In fact, it is an eye sore in the major cities  such as Accra, Kumasi, Secondi Takarodi, Tamale Etc of how waste rubbers tend to be
thrown around anyhow. I believe that the numerous floods that is wrecking Accra and others cities in Africa could have been averted if plastic waste were managed properly. The picture on the right that you see  was taken on 11th September, 2016 at Bolgatanga Central lorry station. It is a scene where containers and women are busy selling around this health Hazard. An outbreak of Cholera will be a disaster.
It is in this regard that ASIGE  has started pilot testing of waste management disposal education in Bolgatanga Municipal in the Upper East Region. This program is known as CENTRE FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT EDUCATION (CEWMAE). Its is a strategic design that empowers rural women to come out with innovative products that waste rubbers could be used for instead of littering the environment. On the first day of training, Our women were able design bags, containers, Baskets, lap top bags  and phone covers out of waste rubbers. In total there 65 women in the municipality who are currently working on designing more products from waste materials. I believe this is the solution to the waste problem in Africa. We at ASIGE says "waste materials are waste".
Also onthe CEWMAE program a conscious effort is been made to reach out to stakeholders in waste generation and management to save our cities, lives and create jobs for 1000s of women.
