New Technology in Waste Management

Upper East Region is engulf with extreme poverty that is affecting thousands of lives especially women.
The causes of this poverty can best be described as  self inflicted. To tackle the rising level of poverty, ASIGE developed  a comprehensive strategy that aims at changing the attitude of the young generation to the realities of the changing trends.  We have started the pilot testing at Bolgatanga municipal where we use waste rubbers to train young people to produce bags. Apart from that, women are also engaging in the production of Baskets. They come in varying shapes, sizes and colour combinations to the taste of the consumer. There are over one thousand women in the region that depend on the production of baskets for a living.  Baskets are produced manually  that is 3-5 days per one. The cost price per basket is $5 and sold for $ 10 in Ghana. the product is used all over the world as we see exporters come from the US, EU, and other emerging markets. if proper investment is put into this activity  a lot of rural women will be saved  poverty. Currently ASIGE is working with 60 women through adopting new technologies to enhance the durability and beauty of these baskets.  for further inquiries please contact us at ASIGE for details  and how to get one basket for your shopping
